President Mike Swartz led us in the pledge.

Student Rotarians: Adham Aly (Egypt), Martina Brachetta (Italy), Jordan Halkoski , Carina Soerensen (Denmark), Sally Whitmore all shared what they learned about our club and how much our club does for the community. They all thanked the club for inviting them.

Happy Bucks
Sandee Macht for the great District Conference and that we will be having our RI President Ray Klinginsmith and President Elect speaking at our 6250 District Conference on May 6-7, 2011 in Madison. Ray Klinginsmith will be in Madison on October 22 also.
Shirley Dempsey for her pond that is gone but she still has a fountain that she can turn on when she wants. Hope I got that right.

President Swartz spoke about what a great honor it is that Jefferson received the School of Character Award, one of two districts selected to be interviewed in April amongst 20 in the nation. Also Unity Day at school will be next Wednesday 3:30 to 6pm.

Fines: Tom Moore fined everyone who didn’t show up at the Fun Family Float.
David Olsen for being late.

Board of Directors meet today.
Fun Family Float profits will be approximately $850.
Cruise Night group asked for a donation- no funds available at this time.
Cow Chip contest tickets will be ready soon, finalized some details.
Vacation raffle tickets will also be ready soon, we have six items on the ticket. If anyone has anything to add, get it to Michael Swartz asap.
Brat & Burger-Steve and Colleen offered to chair the event this year. This event will be here sooner than we think.
We accepted with reluctance a leave of absence from Gary Thompson for up to one year.

Janet Werner stated our club was presented with a plaque at the District Conference commemorating our 75 years of being a club. It was a surprise and quite an honor to be able to bring this home for our club.

President Swartz stated that Unity Day might be cancelled today due to the inclement weather which is predicted for later in the day. We’ll receive an email.

Steve Lewis for the volunteers on Saturday at the Family Fun Float. Steve also had a $1 for Tom Moore who is in the Dominion Republic with his wife and no children.
Dr. Freiberger who has had three funerals recently and how it brought the family altogether so his was for the family.
Gary Myers for their son Philip graduating from law school.
Sandee Macht who will be attending the Rotary District Conference this weekend.
Pastor Nancy Carmichael during the Sunday service accepted a proposal of marriage and will be married in July. And that she and Colleen didn’t dunk in the river on Saturday.
Ray Krek for his son who graduated on Saturday and who will be attending Rotary in St. John on Wednesday.
David Olsen who attended a signing of a law in Madison giving funeral homes an additional $1,000.
Del Chmielewski for the Turkish exchange that will be taking place here May 31.

Thank you to Pam Chickering-Wilson for her coverage of our events in the Daily Jefferson County Union.

President Swartz welcomed all the Top 10% of the Senior Class and their parents along with principals of each school.
They were all introduced along with their parents and presented a certificate following our quest speaker.
Tara Bauer, Hannah Erdman, Alexander Findlay, Brian Findlay, Michael Janz, Veronica Kubicek, Jacob McDonald, Stacy Miller, Taylor Moehling, Jenna Nowicki, Jenifer Prophett, Vincent Racanelli, Molly Spitzer, Jacqueline Splittgerber, Michael Stellmacher, Tyler Tomczak.

Dr. Meyers in introducing Mr. Jim Haraughty, Team MS, read off a long list of career opportunities. Jim tried a lot of different things before he had to find something more permanent and stable upon finding out that he Multiple Sclerosis-which affects the central nervous system. Jim organized Team MS to spread more awareness about the disease. He works at Trek which allows him to work at home some of the time. He encouraged the students to try out different opportunities as they come along.

Dr. Meyers introduced Dr. Todd Goldbeck of Xcel Therapy who referenced several stories which were personal experiences during his life with individuals which really impacted the how, what and where of his years in high school and college and helped to do everything he wanted to do. Dr. Goldbeck stated you can do anything you want, but Dr. Goldbeck emphasized to the group that should “do everything to accomplish the goals they want to set in their life.”

They all enjoyed their time with our club and learned more about what we do and how much we give back to the community. All are going to college.

Sandee Macht- attended “Grease” on Friday and then went to Pastor Nancy’s party.

Fines:

Business Meeting:
Vacation raffle with $1,000 cash for air fare. We need 4-6 more prizes to add on the ticket. If you have something you can donate please call President Swartz asap so we can get the ticket printed. Drawing will be held on Labor Day weekend. Tickets will be $20, 3/$50, 7/$100.
Cow Chip Challenge was presented and will be done at the Jeff. Cty Fair, tent provided by fair park. Challenge will be done on Sunday afternoon, tickets sold all week. Prizes: $1,000, $500, $250 and some extra items.
Multi-District PETS training are being planned for 2011-2012 Club Presidents.
Rotary Club banquet will be held on June 24th at Comfort Suites. Past presidents will be invited.
Club vision facilitation services are offered from the District to any club to look at your planning for the next five years which is very worth while to do. Dates will be emailed out as soon as I receive them.
Rotary Park clean up will be May 5th 4:30pm, we will go over to Vinnie’s after for burgers & ?
Please arrive early next week for the Top 10% luncheon so we can great our guests.
Fun Family Float is going well, reservations are coming in.

We were entertained by the cast from the Jefferson High School performance of “Grease” which will be held this weekend. Two groups performed and if you want to see the rest you’ll have to attend one of the performances starting Thursday evening. Very entertaining.

Happy Bucks:
Sandee Macht heard a brain “wave” on public radio and she was pleased.
Jackie Myers & Gary returned from Las Vegas where they attended a wedding and celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary.
Paul Novitzke who vacation last week in Mexico for 6 days.
David Olsen who spent some time in Florida and Ryan will be home for the weekend.
Steve Lehmann- Steve Lewis & Pam Chickering-Wilson’s article on the Fun Family Float article in the newspaper last week which was excellent.
Steve Lewis is really excited about the calls and people who are signing up for the event on May 15th. Also will need another boat to cruise the river and keep the waters calm for the event.

Fines:
Dell Olson thought President Mike Swartz should be fined because he didn’t bring the National people from Character Ed to Rotary last week. He gave some lingo about not having any money!!!! Dell did state that he could get by without paying with a report on how he felt the two days of interviewing and visiting our school district went.

President Swartz was host today & Thursday to representatives from the Character Education National Headquarters for the Jefferson School District being selected as one of 20 finalists in the country.
President Elect Werner asked for someone to take over writing the Spoke and also to do PR for the club as of July 1st. Please get back to Werner if you are willing to take this on.

Program:
Jim van Lieshout spoke on Every Rotarian Every Year program for the Rotary Foundation, handouts were also given out. Get signed up, this is easy to do.

Happy Bucks:
Pastor Nancy for Joann being elected, condolensces to Gary Myers , and cement work on her house completed.
Tom Monogue $5 for the referendum passing and diddo to Pastor Nancys election remarks.
Dr. Meyers still in need of a speaker for May 5th-Middle School Luncheon.
Ray Krek who owns seven buildings is really happy to be paying more taxes.

President Swartz and Sandy made a pledge to give a $1 for every vote they won by, so they will be sending a check for $304 to the club which will be used for the Books for Baby promotion/Literacy Council. President Swartz also said he appreciated everything Mayor Myers during his term, thanked all who supported the referendum. He emphasized that with spending that kind of money the school will be maintained.

Fines:
Tom asked everyone who voted to raise their hand-didn’t go well, everyone except Dr. Freiberger who said he didn’t have anything to vote for where he lives. Tom went empty handed today.

Steve Lewis gave an update on the Fun Family Float. We will have a waiver form of insurance for the event.

Program:
Ann Johns-Government Contracting Specialist spoke and presented a slide presentation on government contracting and how to get started with the program.

Student Rotarians: Holly Skretta, Molly Spitzer, Sara Zwieg, Erica Saldana were present and told what they liked about their month in Rotary.

Ray Krek : Ben & Rays pheasant hunting experience was shared; for the trial he settled which will give him back his week of vacation in Maine, his grandchildren visiting this week and a dollar to Holly Spitzer for her trip.
Paul Novitzke for his trip to the Bahamas with a friend who found a Spanish ship which sunk in the 1650’s. Some finds were emeralds, silver bars. He also had fun fishing.
David Olsen for Secretary of Tourism Kelli Trumble visit to Jefferson County last week, one stop was in Jefferson at the chamber and at the Fair Park. Also for his daughter who is home on spring break from Washington DC.
Dr. Meyers still looking for speaker for the Middle School Top 10 luncheon. Any suggestions call Dr. Meyers.

Executive Board met today with a lot of time spent on our financial picture. Vacation package to St. John donated by Ray Krek-tickets will be $20 a piece, 3/$50, and 7/$100, along with several other prizes to make it appealing. Also suggested was the cow chip challenge which everyone seemed to enjoy the explanation of how the event is done. It was decided to do the vacation raffle package separate from the Brat & Burger, late fall, as to not take away from that event.
